This 3 hour training is recognized by the Quebec Board/College of Psychologists (OPQ) for continuing education credits
The last few years have seen an increasing number of adults and youth identifying as “trans”. Schools and Health and Social Services agencies are being approached to provide a multitude of services to these individuals yet feel at a loss as they struggle to understand the needs of these populations. The goal of this training is to help anyone working in the schools or health and mental health fields, to better understand the issues and challenges experienced by transgender and transsexual individuals.
We will clarify and elaborate on concepts such as “gender identity”, “gender expression”, “transgender”, “transsexuality” and speak to the experience of families who experience the transition of a parent or of a youth. We will look at ways to make our various work environments safer and more welcoming and speak to the specific needs of trans youth in schools and other youth focused environments.
